Prof. Christopher Wolverton
Dr. Christopher Wolverton is the Jerome B. Cohen Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. His groundbreaking research in quantum mechanical simulation tools is foundational to the emerging field of “materials informatics” whereby science can suggest new materials for a variety of uses in the same way that Netflix and Amazon can recommend movies or books. While the number of applications is extensive, a major current focus is on materials for alternative energies and sustainability – hydrogen, batteries, lightweight metals, fuel cells, and thermoelectrics. Before joining Northwestern he worked at the Research and Innovation Center at Ford Motor Company, where he was group leader for the Hydrogen Storage and Nanoscale Modeling Group.
